Meet Kurt Maxxon
When Lt. Col. Kurt Maxxon retired from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1992, after twenty years as a fighter pilot, he had been dabbling in stock car racing for a little over four years. He’d won eight of the twenty-seven races he started and had seven top-ten finishes.
Kurt retired to his boyhood home of Albertstown, in the Swift River Valley. He bought an established auto parts store and took up stock car racing full time. He joined the Swift River Valley Stock Car Racing Association (SRVSCRA) and ran in nearly all the nine-per-year racing meets, plus most of the annual post-season Shootout Specials between the top ten racers for the year. Meet Alisha Sharpe
Jim Overturf talks about Alisa Sharpe character
I met a cute little woman with a fiery head of hair. Her name is Alisa Sharpe and her hazel eyes present a no-nonsense appearance. The last time I talked to her, she said, “I’m currently in a totally satisfying relationship with a man I adore and who, in turn, treats me like the Queen of Sheba.”
The first time I met Alisa, the circumstances were not so happy. I interviewed her while she was in jail on suspicion of murder. She said, “I’m Alisa J. Sharpe. The middle initial stands for Janelle. I hate the name. It turned out to be the name of the woman my father ran off with.” Read More
Meet Lucky O’Rourke
Lucky is actually Kyle Tipton O’Rourke. Kurt gave Lucky a lift while driving to the Sunday race at Masonville. Lucky’s sister, Darby, was dying with cancer. Kurt helped Lucky settle down in Masonville, introducing him to Jiggs Borsche. Lucky took guardianship of his niece and nephew when his sister passed on. Lucky also found out his natural daughter needed a home after his ex-wife was killed. As a single father of three teenage children Lucky remains devoted to them and worries about their futures. Lucky’s job with Borsche Excavating as a transmission mechanic on the big earth moving equipment takes him to different construction sites. At one he discovered the dead body of a young girl stuffed under a storage trailer. He also spotted several pieces of evidence. When he discovers Angie Prescotte, he helps her study the Bible to find her faith. Lucky is a born-again Christian after a conversion in Iraq. As they meet to study the Bible, Lucky and Angie become romantically involved, and end up married with a blended family.
Meet Angie Prescott
When driving race cars became more of a burden than fun, Kurt and Christina went looking for a racecar driver to take over for Kurt. Their search ended with a talented young lady—Angelica Beverly Prescotte. Angie had graduated from Centralia College with a degree in Physical Education, after going through all four years on scholarship for her talents in volleyball. She had book learning, but also impressed Kurt as having “street smarts” as well. She had the bravado to get into a race car and drive 120 miles-per-hour with two dozen other drivers on a racetrack. She was naïve enough to believe you could achieve a good life through hard work and honesty. Angie won races and ran in the top order most of the time. As she awaited the arrival of her daughter, Auronia, born on January 26th, her live in lover and Auronia’ father, Tugs Matthews, was killed in a car wreck in Memphis after he had dropped off his brother at the airport. With the help of Christina Maxxon, Angie got through Auronia’s birth, and through the adjustment of life without Tugs. Angie had just about got back to normal when she decided she needed to learn what she could about being a Christian. She enlisted the assistance of Lucky O’Rourke to help her study the Bible. Angie has her second daughter, Kyna Bethan O’Rourke.
